Yes that’s what I did the other week for my isle Royale hike. Just added boiling water and let soak for about 10 minutes in my koozie till rehydrated and worked great. Saves on gas doing it this way I am finding with most of my meals I’ve been doing this way.

The only thing I did different to save on gas for cooking was precooked the noodles and dehydrated them so all we had to do was soak with boiling water and placed in a koozy for 10 min.

just made another batch for future trips. This time I added some dehydrated sweet peppers to the mix.

would be great doing a cold soak for the warmer summer months of camping.5 stars

Yes, it would speed up the cooking time a bit!

By: Valentine https://www.freshoutdo.com/dehydrated-backpacking-pasta-primavera/#comment-91504 https://www.freshoutdo.com/?p=11580#comment-91504 I recently made and tested this recipe, with the addition of dehydrated canned chicken to boost the protein and calorie content to ~500 cal/serving, and using Tinkyada brand rice pasta (since it’s gluten-free, and advertises that it will cook with 2 minutes of boiling + 16 minutes of hot soaking). I was able to fit the squash, capers, and tomatoes for each serving onto one round tray of the Nesco Snackmaster. I reconstituted it in a thermos, adding just enough boiling water to cover the goods, then letting it sit hot & sealed up. With these modifications, it came out too salty for my taste, with a sauce that made me think “reconstituted powdered milk plus oil” rather than “cream.” For those following in my footsteps, I recommend:
-halve or entirely eliminate the salt as the capers (and maybe chicken) add plenty
-if hot-soaking with zero boiling, plan on letting it soak for 30+ minutes. Or just boil per Fresh Out Do’s instructions; I think that would release starches that could thicken up the sauce beautifully.

My guts do better with cultured dairy (ie cheese) than with uncultured dairy (ie milk). I prepare adventure food at home at a leisurely place during bad weather, vacuum seal (including tiny packets of oil/sauces/liquids), and store in the freezer until adventure time. I will make this recipe again in the future, without salt or butter powder, substituting pesto for the oil, and make within the first few nights of any warm-weather adventures.4 stars

I can’t have dairy so I substituted coconut milk powder for butter powder and nutritional yeast for the butter powder, and worked great.

In other words, could you tell us how muched dried zuchini/squash, dried tomatoes, dried parsely, etc. is required or in what ratio? I tend to dehydrate entire batched of zuchini, tomatoes, etc. rather than just what I need for one recipe. It would be great if I know how much of each dried product when into one batch of dinner so I could make these kits in bulk. Thanks!5 stars

By: Mark https://www.freshoutdo.com/dehydrated-backpacking-pasta-primavera/#comment-87933 https://www.freshoutdo.com/?p=11580#comment-87933 I liked this recipe a lot. I added zucchini, but skipped the summer squash, used regular tomato instead of cherry tomatoes and added a few other vegetables I already had. I also couldn’t find any small pasta shells, so I used mini farfalle (the small bow noodles) and they worked great. This recipe makes two servings. One serving left me wanting a little more, so I will add a few more mini farfalle next time. However; whatever you do, don’t skip the capers! They were a nice touch. Thank you!5 stars

Added some dried salami but it doesn’t even need it. Also increased the amount of pasta. Definitely be careful about the amount of water added.4 stars

I looked it up and it said it would. So what is your opinion about that? Thanks!
