It’s older but for the most part still accurate. freecampsites.net is my go to. hipcamp.com is useful, not free sites but sometimes very inexpensive.

Lived in Newfoundland, and there is a tradition there of gravel-pit camping. Very rugged landscape, with lots of small gravel pits, and people will make a mini holiday with friends of pulling in, setting up, and staying for a day or three. Part of the culture. Province is very much worth a trip, especially the west coast, and Gros Morne National Park. Beautiful, and lightly travelled. Last August, early September offers the best weather.
